Clarington is building a new Community Park in Newcastle on the west side of Diane Hamre Recreation Complex. Phase one included the design and construction of a new skateboard park, which opened in 2022. Phase two includes the construction of tennis and pickleball courts, a baseball diamond, shade structure and more.
Starting the week of Monday, October 31, 2022, construction will begin on phase two of Newcastle Community Park. Crews will work through the fall to prepare and grade the site for spring construction, which will include:
Access to Diane Hamre Recreation Complex will be maintained throughout the construction. The leash-free dog park will also remain open; however, it may close temporarily during work on the pathway. As a safety precaution, the skate park will be fenced off and closed until the park reopens in late summer 2023.
